My oh My..

It has been a while! I have slow weeks and busy weeks of this semester but somehow I have not managed to blog like I hoped to. This story though, gave me motivation to blog.. or atleast link. Many of you who read this blog know where I am from. But many of you don't really know where I'm from... or how it really is there. I can not explain to you the closeness of this little town I call home. Our boys basketball team won the state championship game last Thursday. Even though I have been an alum for a whopping 3 years now I am still so excited. I know the cheerleaders, the coach and most of the team.. and I can guess I know every fan! I don't think there is a much better example of our towns bond than this blog post from a parent in the community. I absolutely love the way it is written. If you get a chance, go over and read her whole blog... but especially read about our Hometown Heros.

One last baking..

One last cupcake baking before going back to school tomorrow or Sunday. I live in the sorority house and we don;t have full range on the kitchen so it's not so easy to bake!

One last cupcake (or all 12) before my Spring Break diet begins. Have I mentioned we're going to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic or spring break? Well we are and I'm determined to shed a few pounds before laying on that beautiful beach!!!

One last cupcake baking as a 20 year old. Yep that's right.. this gal turns 21 next Sunday.. 8 days!!

One last cupcake that is wonderful Devils Foodcake with Cream Cheese icing.. out of a box/can but still amazing!! Swirly icing courtesy of a plastic zippy bag and a pair of scissors!

I promise I have not forgotten my password..

Although it may seem I have forgotten it.. I do indeed still know it! I have been super duper busy lately. Rush starts in a week and 2 days! I can not believe it.. I don't know if I'm ready for it to be over but I can not wait for it to start! I'm one of the few girls who actually does really really love rush!! I have two tests this week and the PCAT again on Saturday. I now wish I wouldn't have registered for it and just taken my first score. I'm way too busy to study for it and my score was ok the first time. O well, just maybe I'll pull something great out! For now, it's back to studying... I'll do a big catch-up-on-my-life post very very soon- promise!

Rain on my very own tin room..

Monday I finally got all moved in to my house for the summer. With every minute it's starting to feel a little more like home. I love it here. It's my first time to really really be on my own. Sure I haven't lived at home in two years but it has always been community living. I've lived in the dorm where there are strict rules, two person rooms, and community bathrooms. Next I lived in the sorority house where these is staff, two three and four person rooms, and yet again community bathrooms. I LOVE community living which I partially blame on me not having any sibilings around growing up really. This is so different though. Yesterday was a fabulous day.. my first real day in my new house. I went to class at an early 8AM then came back for a short nap then packed up with my roomies for an afternoon at the pool and finished the night with a glass of wine on our front porch swing. BLISS!! What more can a girl ask for?
Last night while swinging on the porch Madeline and I came to the conclusion that our house was a cabin. We really feel like it is. We have a fabulous tin roof and are surrounded on 3 well really 2.5 sides by woods. The mosquitos will get you here too.. I'm pretty sure we will have bought WalMart out of citronella by the end of the summer. And it has a porch that is perfect for sitting at night after the sun has gone down. It's a perfect little summer home and we all love it!
Now I'm relaxing in my bed rewatching season 1 of Gossip Girl and listening to the rain hit our tin roof and the thunder roll. I'm one happy little girl right now!

finals are making me fat...

Along with finals come procrastination and also snacking! I have been doing alot of both of these tonight. The DG house had kool-aid packets which pretty much made my day! I've always been a kool-aid kid but it has been forever since I have had it... Yum! I've pretty much snacked on everything in the kitchen!! My fabulous roommate Saralauren just brought Em and I a surprise which has also made my day!! Gooey goodness of a chocolate chip cookie that you cook in the microwave and pour fudge on top!! BLISS!! Just what I needed to get back on task... well right after my blog post of course!

Notice the notes behind it.. definitely what we should be spending our time on.

AND- Avery had her first dance recital last night! I can not wait to see the video but I know she stole the show! Between her mom, other aunt, and I she has to have some dancing genes!!!

All my love,

Funny how a pair of shoes can make you feel..

“Funny that a pair of really fabulous shoes makes us feel so good in our heads — at the extreme opposite end of our bodies.” -Levende Waters

This quote is oh so true! A great pair of shoes can make you feel like a million bucks! I have to say they are my weakness.. Completely. Heels especially.. closely followed by wedges.
I received a fabulous pair of shoes for Christmas from my mama. She picked them out herself and surprisingly I loved them! You almost can't go wrong with a new pair of Jessica Simpson's!They're the perfect neutral color and a perfect high height! The lining and soles are leopard print which is definitely a favorite of mine and the leather is patent also a favorite! Anyway they've been the newest to my collection for a while and quite possibly my new favorites! Last time I came home for a weekend I wore them to church and stepped in a terribly small but deep crack. And yea, I came out with a huge gash in the back of the heel that was soooo deep it showed the metal stake in the heel. It made me sick to say the least!
This past Friday I was driving home from school and decided to drive through Tupelo. I passes "the Shoe Hospital".. I had seen it before but this time I stopped by. I have quite a few pairs of nice heels whose heels have been ruined by walking though gravel or mainly the Grove. The cap on the heel has fallen off and the fabric/leather that covered the stake has rolled up. Needless to say I am a bit rough on my heels.. and it's always the ones I love the most. So anyhow I stopped by this little hospital and took in the only two distressed pairs I had brought home with me... my fabulous sling back patent leather black BCBG heels and my new gorgeous nude colored peep toe JS pumps. (Can you hear the affection in my voice because it's there?!) The lady working there looked at both and said she could only help the black ones whose heel caps were missing and leather ruffled. The fact that she could fix those made me ecstatic because they had been damaged for quite some time now. She said she could not fix my nude pumps but she new a trick that could help! She told me to find a crayon that semi matched the color and melt it down and paint in on to the gash.. I did it and guess what IT WORKED!! You can see where it did it because the colors do not match exactly and the surface is not completely smooth but when I'm wearing them you'll never be able to notice! I'm so excited she let me in on this trick because I'm sure through the rest of my life I'll have plenty of other accidents. I have another pair or two that are missing heel caps that will be be sent to the shoe hospital as soon as the house opens back up after Spring Break and I can get my hands on them! I can't wait to have brand new heels again!
My Personal repair job- you can barely even tell!!

Here are they are in mint condition- Fabulous!

I've had shoes on my mind alot lately and the other day I found a cute pair of JS wedges in the mall the other day. I tried them on with all intentions of buying but they didn't have my size! Sad time but I came home to Internet search them and order them! Guess what, I found them for free overnight shipping AND in an even better color!! I ordered "Glorie" in Rustic Platinum and I can not wait for them to come in!! I have a feeling they might just be a favorite and I may just have to order them in desert sand (the original color I loved). They'll be here tomorrow and I will be waiting!
New Wedges=Spring Time

Also I got my first real massage today! Pure Bliss!! I'm a sucker for a good foot rub and a back rub isn't far behind! Definitely worth it!!
That's all for today I believe.. I'll let you know my review on the new wedges tomorrow hopefully!

Toms.. One for One

Monday night our sister chapter of our sorority in another town hosted Black Mycoskie. I personally did not know the name at first word but Blake is the chief shoe giver for Toms Shoes. This is an organization that I really think is great! There purpose is the sweetest most heart touching I've heard of in retail. Every pair of Toms you buy sends a pair of Toms to a kid in need in another country. Blake started this company after visiting Argentina and helping some volunteers give donated shoes to kids without them. He was truly touched by this and he wondered where their next pair of shoes would come from. Kids grow so fast and people are not as fastly donating. He decided a for profit industry would survive best.. and he was right! They've already donated hundreds of shoes to needy kids since 2006 when they started. His story was really inspiring and kind of funny. He never expected to have the great success he has had today. He said his customers do the advertising and I guess I am a prime example. How can you not help such a great company though?! I personally LOVE my Toms and wear them all the time. There are so many different styles to choose from but I settled on silver glitter because if you know me very well... its just me!

Here is Blake himself giving shoes to the little kids.. Yes he is soooo cute in person!!

Happy Birthday Eve

So today is my birthday eve. If you haven't already discovered this about me, I like to drag my birthday out as long as possible! I love to celebrate my birthday and other people's birthdays as well. There's just something about candles on a cake and bows on presents that makes my heart light up and spreads a smile across my face. This day has been fabulous.. and freezing! When I woke up this morning I went to get my towels out of the dryer where I had left them and gone to bed the night before. I opened the dryer door and there sat my towels all stacked and nicely folded! What a great surprise and start to my day! I know that's just something small that anyone could do but it really started my day off right! This just goes to show a small act of kindness never goes unnoticed. I still have no idea who was responsible for this act but if you're reading, Thank you! :) After that I got ready for my 9am class I checked the weather on my phone and saw frigid temperatures and sleet was waiting for me. I started to plan my outfit in my head and decided leggings would be my best choice because being the shorty that I am all of my pants touch or drag rather the ground as I walk and I didnt want soaking pants legs and I chose tennies for my feel. I opted just to layer 2 long sleeve t-shirts and top with a thin rain coat because it should be "wind proof". Wow, did I make a mistake in clothing choice. To say that I was lacking in the warmth department would be an understatement! My leggings were super thin and wind swept right through them, my rain jacket was too light and did nothing for warmth, my feet were soaked to the core along with my leggings.. and by the end of the trip my hands and ankles, both exposed, were tingling! O, and did I mention that there were icicles forming on the tips on my umbrella.. Yea! When I say this was harsh winter weather do take me seriously. I wanted to cry walking to and from class today, and a friend did see a girl literally crying walking to class. Luckily I only had one class or might have done the same! ha Anyhow I made it to and from without hypothermia and that is my pity story about my cold morning.
Side Note: Classes were cancelled at noon today on campus. This was great except for only about 10 people on the whole campus have Friday classes after noon.. but great thought Ole Miss!
When it had warmed up a tad I decided to go shopping on the square for a new dress to wear for my birthday dinner. I walked around for o.. about 3 hours. Just browsing and shopping and walking and enjoying the rain if that's possible. After several trips to every store I settled on this fabulous leopard dress! I was nervous at first about it because it was a little wild but decided it was my birthday and my style sometimes is a little over the top anyway! I love sequins and rhinestones and animal print. Gaudy is a good word for it.
I proceeded to get ready for the night. My friends and I were having a birthday celebration in the basement of Boure! The basement is pretty much just a private party room but I love it! It seems more fun to be in the basement! I think I had 19 people end up coming which was awesome! I have always loved birthday parties and I hope I'm never to old to have one. We had fabulous food and great fun with all of my friends that were able to make it! Ellen entertained us all at one point with her funny life! I'm telling you she's one of the funniest people I know and she has the funniest things happen to her! I love her!! Crystal and Emily were so sweet and got a birthday cake for us to enjoy. They told the story of how they searched the town for a decent cake. Many of the bakeries were close due to weather so it was not an easy task. They ended up having to go behind to counter at Big Star to decorate the cake themselves!! How funny is that!! I love it and it makes it all the more special! Tonight was great.. I couldn't have asked for more except for it to last longer!! Thanks so much to all you girls who made it.. Yall are each so special to me and fabulous!

All the lovely ladies minus a few that made my day special!

Blowing out my candles picture with the beautiful cake Crystal and Emily worked so hard on. I forgot to mention earlier that the first attempt at decorating the cake ended up looking similar to a pile of green spaghetti on top due to equipment malfunction but they did a great job to fix it beautifully!

Thank Goodness I'm Not.....

That was the theme of our swap last night. A great idea.. easy to mess up.. but very fun!! For those who may not know a swap is a social party usually at a bar where a fraternity and sorority come together to have a "meet and greet". They all have themes and you dress up appropriately. There were so many funny costumes there.Examples: many pregnant people, many "Jersey Shore" cast members, lots of red necks, high schoolers, and many rival team fans/players. Like every good little Ole Miss girl should.. I went as (thank goodness I'm not) a LSU fan. They are our major rivals and who we want to beat in football every year most! They are loud, wild, crazy and most of all obnoxious.. even with their clothing. I chose to wear a deep purple long sleeve dress with some bright yellow leggings gold shoes and as much gold/yellow and purple jewelry as I could find. I topped my outfit off with lots of purple eye shadow and a big yellow half way up bow! Pictures to come..
That big yellow polka dot ribbon threw me back to high school. We wore those to almost every sporting event and I loved it! I would still wear bows today if I wouldn't look crazy. Everyone's hair looks better with a bow I'm convinced. I blame a small amount of my bow obcession on my mom.. not because she forced me to wear ginormous bows on my head from the time I had hair but because she didn't. My mom never forced or really convinced me to do anything. This is why I believe I'm so obsessed with them and go ahead a feel sorry for my daughter one day because she will have huge ones every. single. day. I also "blame" my mom for my love of pageants and cheerleading. She never forced me to do either like some moms do and that could be why I love them so much. Anyhow off track again as for my bow situations.. For now I have to stick with my simple decorative hair pins which I do love so much.

My Found Desk

I finally found the desk I have been looking for. My mom actually found it at an antique/flea market. It looked very plain jane but it was small and has lots of side drawers which is what I wanted. So I took it home and started the revamp!
Here it is before:

So then I sanded it all off. It took a few hours and my carport was covered in dust along with myself. Then I just blindly started painting it.. no real plan in mind. My faborite part was the drawers.I painted them all different colors and designs. I am still a fan of animal print so I defiantely painted 2 of them in that style. I finished it out with a gloss and protector on top. Now I'm on the look out for some pretty drawer pulls.
Here is the finished product:

Above this desk is the new mirror that I talked about in my last post. This is the perfect little set up.
