Summer Dresser and Summer Bed

In my last post I mentioned that I have recently redone a dresser for my room this summer. I kind of waited last minute (the Thursday before I was moving on Saturday.) I found this dresser at a thrift store I just happened to stumble upon while exploring Tupelo trying to find something like this. I really only need this for about 2 months because in August I will be moving back into the fully furnished Delta Gamma house (whoo-whoo). Anyhow back to the dresser.. I found it for a whopping total of $30!! How could I turn it down with a price like that?! It was a bit of an eye sore at the moment but a fresh coat of paint can do a world of good!
...before the makeover

Like I said before this was a very last minute purchase so I didn't have much time to make redo this desk. By the time I got home with it, it was getting kind of late and I was exhausted from packing and shopping and all so I decided to take the fast and easy way out. I spray painted it instead of brush painting it. This seemed like a good idea at first but it was not. The top especially was very uneven and it turned into a bigger job than expected. So I got the bright idea to cover the top in magazine articles using ModgePodge. Where do these ideas come from? I'm not sure but I liked the outcome.. for a $30 summer dresser at least.

close up of a few of the articles- if you know me any at all you know I LOVE the shoe!!

I covered the top in fun articles (including but not limited to: "Risks Every Gutsy Girl Must Take", "Wear Jewelery with Confidence" and "Be the Smartest Sexiest Girl in Town"), and then added 5 full page funky high heel pictures. These gave it the color and fun that it needed.
Also I spray painted the handles a metallic champagne gold which went perfectly with the white base color and the colors of the articles. Sometimes the drawers are hard to shut and the paint is already beginging to chip. This desk may not be with me forever but it sure is fun to have for now.

Just for fun, here's a picture of my bed. I sewed each of the throw pillows all on my own. My Nanny was definitely a good teacher! I also sewed my curtain myself. They're made of the pretty french blue giraffe print! I just love all of the white... and the colors go just so! I've officially decided that is my favorite shade of pink!

Since I'm on a roll and showing you all around my room I decided to include this painting I did just a few days before moving back. I'm not so happy with the way the flowers turned out but I love Love LOVE the quote! When I get a chance to go home for more than an afternoon I'm going to redo the top part. But for now here it is..

I apologize for the poor color and lighting in these pictures but I still haven't found my camera charger.

Long Time, No Blog

O my blog, I have neglected you. I love to write so much but just haven't had a chance lately. Don't worry all.. I'll catch you up on life. My last post was last Monday! Wow I seriously can't believe it's been that long! Anyhow... Here it goes!
I'm in an organization on campus called Student Programming Board (the name is self-explanatory) and I'm on the pageants crew. Tuesday night I worked at our rehearsal for Miss University a prelim for Miss Mississippi. I was a runner for one of our directors so I got to be right in the action. We had 12 contestants all of which put on a great show. The actual competition was on Wednesday night. I love things like this by the way if I haven't mentioned it. The winner was a wonderful girl from a close town to where I'm from and she was in my speech class freshman year. (Best class I've had at Ole Miss btw)She was very deserving. So that is thing number 1 that took up my time this week. Wednesday night Dierks Bentley himself made an surprise appearance in our small little college town! Noone even knew he was coming until the day of the event. I wish I would have had a little heads up to make that event because I love him!! Maybe next time Dierks. Thursday night I stayed in to try and get some homework done. That was a kinda successful attempt but I didn't get as much done as I should. My guy and I had originally planned to go to Memphis Friday night to meet another couple, Meg and Phillip for dinner and a fun night but because of the split a few weeks ago on our part we didn't make that date. Very sad for me because I miss my friend Megan greatly and a split is never happy anyway. Sorry Meg, I'll make it up soon with a girls night! So instead Friday after lunch Crystal and I headed off to our neighboring rival school for a little visit. We decided to go through New Albany on our way for a little shopping at a few cute stores there. We had a successful shopping trip. I come home with a great bright coral and grey dress that I can't wait to wear! We then headed on to Stark for a fun night with some friends. We got all ready and headed to a Mexican restaurant for some fun before heading out. We visited their version of the square called the "cotton district." Even though it was a slow weekend for them it was good to have a change of scenery for us! Its a fun place to visit and I hope to visit again soon but I'm so glad I go to Ole Miss!! Saturday I went home to spend the night and have my mom was my clothes and have a home cooked meal and all that fun stuff. I also painted a big picture of a few places on the square to hang on our bare wall beside my bed in our room at school. It turned out just as I wanted! I was inspired by a similar painting at a shop in town.. the price tag was a little steep though, $150. I painted and personalized mine with the places I like to go minus a few for a grand total of $25. I'm quite proud of myself!! I feel like it needs a little something else in the sky. Let me know if you have and suggestions.

Now I'm back in oxford and finishing a short recap of my week.. ready to start a new one! I promise if I can help it, I won't go this long again without letting out a little insight to my life. Oh and by the way, Super Bowl was tonight incase you are on Mars and didn't realize that. ha It was a bittesweet game for me! I love the colts and I love the saints. I wanted them both to win. I am not a bandwagon fan for either team. I am glad the saints won because they haven't won one yet and they deserve it! I can only imagine what it's like to be on Bourbon tonight!! Who dat?!

My Found Desk

I finally found the desk I have been looking for. My mom actually found it at an antique/flea market. It looked very plain jane but it was small and has lots of side drawers which is what I wanted. So I took it home and started the revamp!
Here it is before:

So then I sanded it all off. It took a few hours and my carport was covered in dust along with myself. Then I just blindly started painting it.. no real plan in mind. My faborite part was the drawers.I painted them all different colors and designs. I am still a fan of animal print so I defiantely painted 2 of them in that style. I finished it out with a gloss and protector on top. Now I'm on the look out for some pretty drawer pulls.
Here is the finished product:

Above this desk is the new mirror that I talked about in my last post. This is the perfect little set up.

Getting Settled

So school has been school the past few days.. nothing out of the ordinary there besides alot of early mornings. I have loved being back so far. I'm the least homesick I've ever been.. this town is beginning to feel like home and my friends like family. This semester will be busy soon so I'm soaking in all the down time that I can. There's so much I want to do before the rush of it all gets here. I want ot visit a neighboring school and visit some of my very best friends there and theres a few other weekend trips I'd like to take. Anyhow back to my life lately..
Thursday my mom came down to bring a few things I left behind when packing for school. As always we went to lunch at my favorite place in the town to get mac and cheese.. Roosters.. Its the best I've ever had. Then we continued on to look for a mirror to go above my new desk (more to come about that one). I wanted a very unique mirror to go with my unique desk so we decided the antique places would be the best bet for that. I found the cutest mirror for a steal and 30% off on top of that. I love its bright gold color and cool details. It definitely was a find!! (Sorry about the open closet and semi messy room in the mirror.. 4 girls in one room is tough to keep in order)

Today, well yesterday now since its after midnight was a good end to the week. I only have one class on Friday so it was nice to be done at 10. I took a nice nap and then enjoyed "fried Fridays" for lunch at the sorority house. After all that I got ready and a group of girls took a trip to Memphis for the evening to go to dinner and just play around the town for a bit. We ate at a great sushi place.. I actually had pizza.. how weird is that, I'm not much for sushi?! but it was actually great!! Then got fabulous cheesecake at a small family run shop. I had chocolate of course!! Then we went to the top of the Peabody Hotel. What a view! We just played and took pictures all night long. We got turned around and accidentally crossed the bridge into Arkansas.. I didn't mind though because the bridge is sooo pretty at night with all the lights on it and the city itself was a light show.

PS: While we were in Memphis I picked up my new attire for ballet. We had a good time reminising on old times as little girls in dance class. I'm excited about reliving that! Dance wear has come a long way since the 90s!

My Unfound Desk

I know this is my third post today but I really have alot to say that has happened recently and I didnt want to combine it all to one extrememly long post. Its my last of the day... I think! ha Anyhoo.. I have been looking for a desk all Christmas break with no avail. I dont want just any desk.. I dont even want a brand new shiny desk. I want an old raggedy desk with drawers down the side.. kind of small. I want to make this desk mine. I plan on painting it with a whimsical feel. I want to put assorted knobs on its drawers and write inspirational quotes all over it!!It's going to get me through the rest of my college years. I'm a pharmacy student and if you dont have one in your life I will fill you in on my life. O wait, I dont have one when school is in. That may be a bit much I do have a small life but I also study and take tests and go to labs 80% of my waking day. I will spend many hours at my desk over the next 5 years so it's going to be a treasure I cherish. Well as soon as I find it.. I will love it!!
